So I read on Shape magazine that the first two days before your run you should get a ton of sleep. Friday night I crashed hard so I was excited. Saturday night rolled around and I didn't get to sleep till 3AM!!! I was so mad! I woke up at 6:30am. Scarfed down a whole wheat waffle and peanut butter. I had my clothes laid out the night before. I bought some Nike Tempo shorts to wear ( Fleet Feet told me they were their best seller and rated highest in the nation) and a cute dry wicking top to go with. Well I checked the temps and it was FREEZING! So I doubled up with some running leggings and the shorts. $28 bucks for shorts; I'm wearin them!!
Shane dropped me off at the race to go grab my "reinforcement" and find parking. There were TONS of people. When I run in a group I get super self conscious about walking. So seeing all these people I though "frigg, I am going to be running this entire thing I know it". You line up by how long it takes you to finish a mile. I situated myself between 9 and 10 minutes. I could see the crazies up ahead that were standing in the 6 mins area. Can you imagine?!
I finished the run in just under 32 minutes. Thats about 10 minute miles. The last little bit I picked a guy to pace and began to sprint. He noticed and out of nowhere I was in a race to the finish. It was hilarious (this guy seemed more fit than me I was shocked I could keep up). I am pretty proud of myself! Shane was there waiting for me at the finish. It was such a relief to see him. After the run we both went to the zoo ("free" entry for me and my family was included in my race fee). I can't wait to do it again! Next time Shane wants to run and we will try a 10k!
