Motocross (Finally!)

AHRMA is real motocross. I just felt that had to be said first. Shane used to race in Supercross. So when I asked if he wanted to road trip with me to see my dad race in "motocross" he thought thats what he was going to see. Some of the differences are:

Supercross
- Guys break something practically every race.
- Not a lot of good sportsmanship (threatening for passes on turns etc.)
- As my pop calls them "the guys that tuck their ears into their hat" (the style is just really different)
- The track is more complicated and more set up for show boating and tricks.

Vintage Motocross
+ Guys get hurt from time to time (my dad broke his neck in 6 places during a race) but rarely.
+ Amazing sportsmanship! The guys who race are older and if they aren't older its because someone got their son into it. As a result I think the vibe is more relaxed.
+ Its vintage. Not everyone tries to hold down the OG style. My dad does (as you will see with his striped shirt).
+ The track is set up for SPEED! Man do these guys go fast! I love it.
Pretty sure thats Mr Mann on 83. Both bikes are BSA, the same kind my dad races

I hadn't seen my dad race since I was about 5 years old so I was really excited to go. I had so much fun. We had real tea time with the family that put on the race! I met the famous Dick Mann and his ADORABLE wife who had the most beautiful german shepherd. Once Shane saw that it was NOT supercross he decided he wanted to try it out! When we got home we even hauled down a 1975 Kawasaki he plans to race! It was quite magical. I hope if anyone of you out there has an interest you'll check out vintage motocross.

1. Shane and I being goof balls in the car ride up
2. Hills off I-5. So neat!
3. My dad. Here he comes
4. There he goes!

1. My dad let Shane ride his bike! It was so neat!!
2. Dad accepting his award for getting 4 in the day. He won 1st in his class!! So proud!
3. An example of the good sportsmanship. My dad giving the next award.

Happy Easter!

Jumping on the easter well wishing band wagon. Here are few pictures I took over the weekend. Shane and I went down to the bay. He has officially met everyone in my family. Of course they all LOVE him. I spent some awesome cousin time (thankfully there are no pictures of that drunken mess!). All around this was a fantastic weekend!

I love his glasses. I have glasses envy.

I hope you all had equally fantastic easters!

Worlds most terrible blogger award goes to...

ME!

I've been so busy with things.
I promise to post all the awesome pictures from last weekends motocross
Tomorrow Shane, my mom and I are driving to the bay for Easter. I miss my Baba so much I Can't wait to see her. As a result I am sure there will be some fun easter pics to post.
I got the handle bars on my bike re-taped. Now they are all cushy and ready for a ride tomorrow morning.
Sacramento hates me (along with many other seasonal allergy sufferers).

I hope everyone is having a great passover. For all you Christians I hope you have a great easter and a happy good Friday!

My first 5k

Click Me
No Friday favorite this week. Things got too busy for me to keep track. However! I give you my 5k story! Enjoy...

So I read on Shape magazine that the first two days before your run you should get a ton of sleep. Friday night I crashed hard so I was excited. Saturday night rolled around and I didn't get to sleep till 3AM!!! I was so mad! I woke up at 6:30am. Scarfed down a whole wheat waffle and peanut butter. I had my clothes laid out the night before. I bought some Nike Tempo shorts to wear ( Fleet Feet told me they were their best seller and rated highest in the nation) and a cute dry wicking top to go with. Well I checked the temps and it was FREEZING! So I doubled up with some running leggings and the shorts. $28 bucks for shorts; I'm wearin them!!

Shane dropped me off at the race to go grab my "reinforcement" and find parking. There were TONS of people. When I run in a group I get super self conscious about walking. So seeing all these people I though "frigg, I am going to be running this entire thing I know it". You line up by how long it takes you to finish a mile. I situated myself between 9 and 10 minutes. I could see the crazies up ahead that were standing in the 6 mins area. Can you imagine?!

I finished the run in just under 32 minutes. Thats about 10 minute miles. The last little bit I picked a guy to pace and began to sprint. He noticed and out of nowhere I was in a race to the finish. It was hilarious (this guy seemed more fit than me I was shocked I could keep up). I am pretty proud of myself! Shane was there waiting for me at the finish. It was such a relief to see him. After the run we both went to the zoo ("free" entry for me and my family was included in my race fee). I can't wait to do it again! Next time Shane wants to run and we will try a 10k!

Friday Favorites

6 months with my boo. Today I celebrate half a year with Shane. I have learned so much from him in the past six months. It may sound cheesy or gross (I wouldn't be offended if you puked in your mouth a little even) but he really does complete me. Ok, I just totally puked in my mouth a bit. You read or hear people talk about finding "the one". For years I have always thought that was a bunch of BS. I'm not a gloater but I think maybe I got lucky enough that I happened to find my "one". He never reads this unless I show him but if he secretly does (aka proof reads form afar) I LUH YOU Dragi!!

Stolen from Avalon. View from the house we are at.
End of the week over night trip to Sausalito. I am so stoked I get to spend some special time with my fam. Especially spend a little girl time. I kind of feel like this entire weekend is  Avalon + Caitlin= awesomest weekend ever!!! So far we got yummy food from Molly Stone's, hung out and melted over pictures of Stephanie's baby girl, and Av and I survived "Poopocalypse" (I think we need shirts? With Pixies face looking sad/guilty on them? LOL). Today we are planning on heading to the Presidio and then to an awesome museum exhibition. Pictures to follow.
Emerson Made

Flared leg jeans. I have a massive obsession with them right now. However, since I am not much of a high heel kind of gal I'm not sure I could pull them off in flats. Anyone have any suggestions on how to pull them off? I love them so. Really, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thats this weeks installment of Friday Favorites. Pat on the back goes to me for keeping up with this one. This weekend is going to be so busy. Saturday English Beat road trip with Avalon, Sunday I run my first ever 5k! AHHHH! So excited and nervous! Its going to be great. Part of my race fee goes to entry into the zoo (the race is called Zoo Zoom). Ever since I took a physical anthropology class I have been so interested in studying monkeys. So I welcome any chance to explore the zoo.

I hope you all have fantastic weekends! I can't wait to read all of your weekend update posts!

A little photo dump

I feel like I don't really post during the week. I am typically overwhelmed with something or other.  This is what I've been up to.

Spring time uniform. Pomegranate Two River cider. New obsession with un conventional bottoms. Raybeez passed out from too much math. Shane passed out from too much life. Raybeez...passed out.
The other day I also got me meet this lovely little lady. My really good friend Stephanie and her fiance Jason had this baby earlier this week! It was the first time I had been around a new born since my sister was born. Man I was nervous. She is seriously the most perfect little baby! All 8lbs of her! I can't wait to spend more time with Stephanie and Indiana. When Stephanie is feeling better they are going to be my newest running partners! I am super excited.

Today is essentially my Friday. I am headed to Sausalito after work. My aunt, uncle and cousin are down there for spring break. I am a bay area girl and so is my entire family. I miss it dearly. Friday is Shane and I's 6 months. Go us! Saturday I am going on a road trip with Avalon to see the English Beat. Sunday is the 5k! I am so nervous and excited for everything coming up in the next few days. I wish I could play hookie from work and start my weekend right now!

A night at the ballet

A few weekends ago I was invited to check out the Sacramento Ballet with my aunt, uncle and cousin. It was so much fun! The Sac ballet did an irish infused ballet piece that was so interesting! I love the ballet! It was neat sitting there with my cousin who was super into competitive irish dancing and me who has done ballet off and on my entire life. I had a little inside on which steps were actually from irish dancing. I had so much fun! The Sacramento Ballet is a really great company.

Friday Favorites

Its that time of week again. I'm stoked I have been relatively consistent with these posts. I should probably start writing down some of my favorites throughout the week though. I have a terrible memory and find myself somewhat straining to remember what I wanted to add. Here is what I remembered this week.

Great weather! Spring has really come to Sacramento. I am a puss when it comes to heat though. Todays temps got me feeling a little uncomfortable. I am originally from the SF bay area so I like nothing higher than 75 or foggy. I have been starting to think of plans for picnics in Mckinley park (which is a beautiful park right down the street from my house).

Five Guys burgers. Holy moly these are delicious burgers (wanna sponsor me people? I accept payment in burger vouchers). The entire time Shane and I were eating these things I kept saying "these taste like homemade!" "wow! That bacon is so crispy!!" The only thing I was sad about was that they didn't have shakes. I really could have gone for a shake with my burger. So four and a half stars for now until I see shakes on the menu. Sorry.
So Cheeesyyyy

Hanging out with my aunt on my day off. We had a really tasty lunch at her house. Just us girls chatting. I love chit chatting! Then she took me to Target and three thrift stores in Davis. I got the most adorable patio table at Target. At the thrift stores I scored a lamp ($6!!) and a great mid-century modern style end table (thanks AC!!!).

Yoga with Avalon. Monday I went to yoga class with my cousin Avalon. I've taken yoga classes before so I felt like I could hold my own. I was excited because I thought this would be a great way to ease myself back into my more tougher workout regimen. I think I was pushing myself waay too hard in that class though. Come Wednesday I was STILL sore. But I accomplished a few poses (like putting my feet over my shoulders. aka made myself a human pretzel) that made me feel really good about myself.

Thats all I can remember for now. I hope you all had great weeks and are starting greater weekends. I am stoked I didn't get pranked this year. I hope you guys went prank free. I don't really have any plans for the weekend. I'd like to hit the farmers market on Sunday. Next week I need to kick my running into gear. My 5k is a little over a week away and I am still running a mile. The weather will be milder next week so I will most likely feel more comfortable going a longer distance.

April is Autism Awareness Month

Via
My job is a love hate type of thing. Somedays its really challenging  and somedays I tear up with pride and happiness from watching my kiddos learn. I have learned so much in the past year (April marks my 1 year with my company) from this job. I have gained an immense amount of patients (which I work on every day), understanding and control. There is still so much to be learned about autism. When I found this job I was looking for something that would rekindle my passion for psychology. This job has definitely done that for me. These kids are the complete opposite of disable in so many ways. They are so smart (some even savants!) and caring. A few of the awesome memories I never want to forget:

- Thursday kid playing along side another kid at the play ground (I totally happy cried)
- Watching my M/W kid tie their shoes for the first time after weeks of my co workers and I practicing with him (totally happy cried again)
- Any of the kids remembering my name
- M/W kid telling me he liked my "bright red nail things" (he meant polish)

I hope sometime this month any of you out there look into autism and what its about. Better yet! Check out Walk for Autism and find a walk near you! Or follow Carly on twitter, the funniest 16 year old around. Carly is autistic and communicates through typing on an iPad! She is so amazing!!

In any regard I hope everyone has a prank joke free April first and a great new month!
